On Jan. 27, Ordinance Enforcement Officer John Lovato and police officer Polly Harris were making their usual rounds in the city when a call went out on the radio for a house fire. Since both officers were nearby, they arrived on scene at about the same time a crew from Unified Fire Authority got there.

As UFA crews worked to put the fire out, Harris and Lovato noticed that a woman was trapped inside a bedroom above the home’s garage, where the fire started.

Thinking quickly, Harris and Lovato grabbed a nearby metal ladder and got it up to the second story window, where they assisted the woman to safety. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.

Several local news outlets recognized Harris and Lovato for their efforts. The city thanks both officers for their selfless service to the community.
