Canyons District is Turning 10

July 1, 2019, is Canyons District’s 10th birthday, and it's celebrating! While most of the original board members and administrators have since departed, the district’s origins should not be forgotten. The raft of new schools and parks in Cottonwood Heights that have come into being over the past decade simply would not have happened were it not for those pioneering efforts. Canyons District wishes to thank those leaders, activists and community members who had the vision, courage and gumption to start up a new school district, the first to be created in Utah in 100 years.

10th Anniversary Festival: An evening showcase of district milestones and the inspiring achievements of Canyons District students. Where: Jordan High auditorium, 95 Beetdigger Blvd. in Sandy. When: Monday, May 13. Reception from 6-7 p.m. and program from 7-8 p.m.

Birthday Party: Free hot dogs, cake and fun. Where: Mount Jordan Middle athletic fields, 9351 S. Mountaineer Lane in Sandy. When: Monday, July 1 at 10:45 a.m. New Bengal Home on the Rise

New Bengal Home on the Rise

Until now, most of the work to rebuild Brighton High has taken place behind the school where it’s not immediately visible to passersby. But starting this spring, steel girders and brick walls will rise from the foundations contractors have laid for two structures that bookend the campus: An arts and technology center to house visual and performing arts and career-and-technical education classes; and a physical education and athletics complex. Completion of these facilities, coupled with the newly rebuilt baseball and softball fields, will mark the end of the first phase of construction. For more information about the project, visit
