CH Resident to perform with Utah Opera

Cottonwood Heights resident and arts council member Christi Jones is not shy, but there is one lifelong dream she kept under wraps.

Being onstage in an opera is something I always wanted to do, I was just afraid to tell anybody,” she said.

So only a few trusted loved ones knew that Jones auditioned to perform with the Utah Opera in mid-April. Seven long weeks later, she finally received the good news: Utah Opera wanted her to participate in two operas during the 2013-14 season. She will perform as part of the opera chorus in Puccini’s Turandot in March and Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio in May.

Jones, who is originally from Seattle, Washington, majored in vocal music at Brigham Young University-Idaho and participated in operas and choirs at the university. After graduation, she moved to Utah and has been active in the Cottonwood Heights community as a member of the Cottonwood Heights Arts Council. She also served as chair of the committee that organized the city’s recent Bark in the Park event.

Though she says it may sound strange, Jones credits a higher power with the success she has found on the stage. “God helped me make decisions in my life that led me to what I really wanted to do,” she said.

Jones works full time for a design company, but hopes to be able to continue performing in her spare time.

Congratulations, Christi!
