CHPD hosts drug take-back event
Posted on 10/25/2011

This Saturday, Oct. 29, the Cottonwood Heights Police Department will support the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Take Back Initiative by sponsoring a prescription drug take-back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Target parking lot at 7025 S. Park Centre Drive in Cottonwood Heights.

The event encourages everyone to turn in unused or expired medications so that they can be disposed of safely.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends of the abusers.  The take-back program gets unwanted medication out of homes, and therefore out of the hands of potential abusers.

There has been an unusual amount of overdoses in our schools and homes,” said Chief Robby Russo. “We’ve seen first-hand how devastating it can be, and how toxic it is for entire families and the community as a whole.”

Officers will be on hand to accept all types of drugs, no questions asked.  Also, FirstMed Clinic is partnering with CHPD to offer free flu shots to the first 50 people to turn in old medications.
