Holiday Waste and Recycling Reminder
Posted on 12/17/2014

This holiday season, please make an extra effort to recycle and reduce waste.

From Thanksgiving to New Year's Day, household waste increases by more than 25%. Provided below are some seasonal tips about keeping the black bin empty and the blue bin full.

Can Be Recycled

  • Cardboard packaging
  • Plain paper wrapping and greeting cards
  • Plastics (1 through 7) and plastic clam shells
  • See electronic stores for battery recycling

Cannot Be Recycled

  • Gift wrapping ribbon
  • Paper with metallic foil designs
  • Bubble wrap packing peanuts and
  • Glossy gift wrap
  • Christmas lights*

*Christmas lights may be accepted by scrap metal recyclers. Additionally, if you cannot recycle an item, find ways to reuse it. Reducing the amount of materials you use for packaging and gift wrapping can lead to saving money at home.

Christmas Tree Collection

Starting the Monday after Christmas, until the last weekday of January, we will collect Christmas trees curbside. Your tree may be picked up on any of your regular scheduled collection days during the month of January.
