When 14-year-old Eric Wagner thought about what to do for his Eagle Scout project, he immediately thought of his beloved dog Lucy and wondered what would happen to her in case of an emergency.

He came up with a project that he hoped would help other pet owners who might not have resources for their pets when disaster strikes.

Like most cities, Cottonwood Heights has a disaster plan in place – which includes guidelines for helping pets. While most officials keep substantial resources on hand for people, the basic needs of pets are often limited.

Eric Wagner’s project included the collection of basic pet needs like food, collars, harnesses, toys and other pet products. All of the items were donated and Eric delivered to Cottonwood Heights City offices in late September. Lucy and his mother Lori tagged along.

The city will keep Eric’s donations on hand in case of a disaster to help residents with pet needs.

Thanks to Eric for a great Eagle Scout project!
