Municipal election will decide two city council seats

Every two years, Cottonwood Heights holds municipal elections for positions on the city council.  This year, city council seats for District One and District Two are up for election.


If you are interested in running for the city council this year, you must file a Declaration of Candidacy and pay the $25 filing fee in person with City Recorder Linda Dunlavy between July 1 and July 15 at 5 p.m. The Declaration of Candidacy will be made available online at www.ch.utah.gov/public_records.election.html.

After submitting the declaration, candidates will receive an election packet which contains detailed information on campaign regulations and requirements.

Candidates for office in Cottonwood Heights must:

  • Be a resident of Cottonwood Heights for at least twelve months prior to filing a Declaration of Candidacy.
  • Be a resident of the district to be represented.
  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be registered to vote in Cottonwood Heights.

The primary election will be held on Sept. 13 and the general election on Nov. 8.
